The door opens to a muddy, tree lined bank. The lake waves make plopping sounds as they lap against the shore and the air is filled with the sounds of insects and lake birds.

It's secluded enough, the tree line dark and save for the floating bits of wreckage not far off shore the waters are empty. Dusk is nearing and it is cool but not cold yet.

When Hellboy steps through the door he sinks to the tops of his boots in the soft mud. Looking down he grumbles and lifts a leg to pull it free.

"Welcome to Monster Island, home of snakes, beavers and our friend the Ogogpogo."

Lissar nods and starts walking over there. If she feels like shaking her feet to rid them of mud it doesn't show. "So dive from over the cliff and swim until he shows to be beaten."

"You can dive that far?" Ironhide says. "Don't think I've ever seen you do that before."

"You have never seen me swim." Lissar points out, moving up to the top of the cliff and taking a deep breath. She dives on the inhale of the next breath, arcing out away from the ground as far as she can.

Ironhide lets out an appreciative whistling noise at that.

Hey, just because he doesn't do projectile weapons doesn't mean he can't approve of a good clean arc.

[identity profile] lissla-lissar.livejournal.com 2008-03-28 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Lissar is doing her best to look, well, appetizing. She's an efficient swimmer, the strokes minimum movement for maximum motion.

[identity profile] not-toothfairy.livejournal.com 2008-03-28 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Fine by me," says Ironhide. He's scanning the water for any signs of temperature variation- "Hey, question. This thing warmblooded? Is it gonna show up on a heat scan, or is it like fish?"

[identity profile] bprd-npc.livejournal.com 2008-03-28 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
The waters are calm as Lissar swims through them, just little waves rolling along the surface.

The entrance to the cave she's swimming past is mostly underwater, dark with deep waters infront of it and running back into the hidden caverns.

In those dark waters something watches the white suited figure paddling around. Resting with most of its bulk below the surface, only the lazy end of its tail amongst the reeds, it tracks her movements.

When it's clear she's not moving on the creature dives deeper, pulling its tail underwater and coming about in a wide arc around the swimming woman, maw opening as it starts to rush towards the surface and her.

Lissar has finely tuned prey instincts. When she finally sees the open mouth coming at her she swims as fast and far as possible. She's certain that even if the thing doesn't show up on Ironhide's scanners, he'd notice that she's suddenly swimming faster and harder.

[identity profile] not-toothfairy.livejournal.com 2008-03-28 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Incoming," says Ironhide, who's suddenly all business. The plasma cannon is offline, but the laser cannon's up and narrowing its aperture and focus. He's no sniper, but he can get really slagging accurate if he has enough motivation to do so.

[identity profile] bprd-npc.livejournal.com 2008-03-28 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
When it sees her changing course it changes tactics. Instead of coming up underneath her and snapping her up like a shark would a swimming seal it closes its mouth and pushes its speed breaking the surface with a huge crash of water and a tremendous roar.

Arcing like a dolphin it cuts back towards the lake to seize its prey from above.

[identity profile] lissla-lissar.livejournal.com 2008-03-28 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Lissar moves as fast and hard as she can to get out of the way. She doesn't have to be that much faster than the monster, she just needs to be a little bit faster.

She doesn't scream. She wishes she hand the extra breath.

"Don't be stupid," says Ironhide with five percent of his processor cycles. "I always get it."

We say five because the other ninety-five have been devoted to things like target acquired and locked and commence laser cannon fire along the beast's length. It might have reflexes kick in after the first shot, but Ironhide's been upgraded over the millennia into one hell of a war machine. He's got reflexes of his own.

The first shot knocks it off course from gulping down Lissar, the next makes it twist in the water and let out a noise akin to a yelp, the third and its roaring in pain and anger and struggling to get back underwater.

It turns and heads for open water, cutting below the surface of the lake and trying to get away from the shots coming from land.

[identity profile] lissla-lissar.livejournal.com 2008-03-28 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Lissar angles her way toward the shore where Ironhide stands. She's fairly certain that the lake monster is not going to move toward the painful things.

She's also certain that her beloved won't shoot her.

Ironhide doesn't have to put down the gun to get a good grip. It is, after all, part of his arm. He just wraps that rope around his hand instead and waits for it to go taut- which, of course, it does. With a vengeance.

He's good with that, though. Got his feet nice and anchored. There isn't an organic made that can thrash its way clear once he sets his mind to it.

[identity profile] bprd-npc.livejournal.com 2008-03-28 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
The sudden jerk that puts an immediate holt to the creature's dive and even tugs it back in the water several feet is surprising and unexpected.

In anger and a panic the lake monster thrashes widly on the end of the line, caught by its tail and with no where to go.

Whipping round to investigate the snag it runs nose first into a stone fist. Again surprised it shakes off the hit only to recieve another to the chin.

That. Is. Enough.

Angered beyond anything it has ever felt before the creature tosses its head and knocks aside the red harrasing figure in the water, narrows its eyes on the rope around its tail and starts to chase it back to its source.

Like a torpedo it rips through the water back towards shore, gaining speed as it goes.

It is perfectly reasonable for Lissar to give one, single and solitary shriek as the lake monster comes sailing after her. Then she shuts up and swims for her life. She's got a lot to live for, and the majority of it is standing on the shore holding the rope. Ironhide is something worth holding onto and she keeps her eyes locked on him as she swims.

"Slaggit!" Ironhide growls, and fires on the monster- rapidly- back along its length. Ideally he'll disrupt its forward speed, and by 'disrupt' we mean 'incinerate several muscles responsible for'. It's getting its rope jerked after that. One way or another, this thing isn't gonna be moving anywhere unless he makes it move.
